Dog Days

With the Fourth of July behind us and the summer season in full swing we've hit that time of they year where temperatures soar. Long days are spent trying to cool off and long nights heat up. We're celebrating this time of year by running a special sale on women's swimwear and select dress styles as well as select mens buttondown styles. Fall will come barging in all too quickly so get out there and enjoy the summer season while it lasts in some cool new styles. Happy hour is another great way to cool off on a scorcher of a day so I'm going to feature my favorite summertime cocktail, Sparkling Blueberry Lemonade. This cocktail uses muddled blueberries to really capture the best part of the season, the fresh produce! Start with a handful of blueberries in a shaker and muddle until they are all burst. Then fill the shaker with ice and add 3 ounces of blueberry vodka. I use Cold River Organic Blueberry Infused Potato Vodka, which does not use any artificial flavorings. Shake well to mix the blueberries with the vodka and pour into a Collins or other tall cocktail glass. Fill the drink to the top with Boylan's Sparkling Lemonade and garnish with a wheel of lemon and a few fresh blueberries. Then pull a chair into the shade and watch the summer world go by as you sip on this refreshing, effervescent libation.

To Firefly and Festivals Beyond

So after the Governors Ball on Randall Island I have full on festival fever. The fest being held in NYC meant a serious dose of style to go with the amazing music and weather! I posted some of the style shots to the instagram and twitter accounts for the store and those were just the tip of the sartorial iceberg. I also came back armed with styling ideas for this weekends Firefly Festival. Since this festival is practically in our backyards I know there are quite a few people from the area going.  I thought this would be a great opportunity to put together a few outfits just in time for you festival goers to pack!

The festival is first and foremost being held for a lot of people to check out a lot of great live music. Heres just a sample from our vinyl collection of some of the artists that will be there next weekend. The only thing better to rocking out to these albums is singing along with hundreds of other people while you watch them perform live!

The forecast for Dover this weekend is pretty balmy so keep you drinks cold and as stylish as you with a Freaker. These work on all size bottles so they're perfect for champagne bottles in case you decide to indulge in a delicious mimosa at your campsite!

The hot weather also means the potential for sunburn, and you haven't know pain until a crowdsurfer lands on your scorched shoulders. Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and use it often, so you land in the medical tents burn ward while your friends are shakin it to Outkast.

And now for the style portion of our post, with mens festival fashion included! I feel like the boys get left out of this party a lot of the time but there are plenty of style savvy guys out there bringing their A-game to the main stages.

This was on of my favorite outfits from the Governors Ball. He had those pants custom made in India and nailed the art of subtle print mixing. He has that blend of casual comfort and tailored structure that can be so elusive but really makes the separate pieces become a style statement.

Go for a similar look by picking up this vintage buttondown and super soft Rhythm cords. Add a pair of shades and some slip ons and rock on in comfort and style.

Mix prints and patterns with ease by choosing pieces in similar color families Top and hat by Duvin Design Co., shorts by Rhythm, Watch and sunglasses by Vestal.

The positive vibes at a festival abound, like this stylish pair who had just met but look like they've known each other forever. I love that he chose to layer an open buttondown over a graphic tee and her choice of a simple dress and statement sunglasses.

Speaking of graphic tees, they are a staple of the festival wardrobe. Here is a small his and hers sampling of what we have in store.

This girl, who requested to remain anonymous, really knows how to let her dress take center stage. Recreate this bright summery look with the Voulez Vous dress from Lovers & Friends, classic shades from Vestal and a casual carry-all bookbag from mi-pac.

JUNE 1!!

So summer if finally upon us. Long hot days soaking up the sun and long hot nights drinking in the fun!! It also means that music festival season is upon us! We're kicking things off in a big way this weekend by bringing beaumondestyle to Governors Ball in NYC! Festival style in the fashion capitol of the world means tons of pics and video, which we will be live posting from the festival grounds. We'll also be counting down the days until Bonaroo and of course the local connection, Firefly!! If you're doing the festival thing this year but don't want to run into 10 others people rocking the same urban tank or F21 dress come check out the shop before packing up that camping equipment! With one of a kind vintage pieces and limited stock on my small brands there won't be any accidental #twinsies moments.  Keep your eye on the blog for outfit inspo. The only downside to the trip to NYC is limited store hours June 6, 7, and 8 we will only be open from 11am to 5pm. Very sorry for any inconvenience but when we return we will be moving to a full time schedule!!

Taste of Summer!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out last night in that crummy weather to celebrate beau monde's first summer kickoff party! For everyone who couldn't make it I still want to share the super tasty cocktail that we featured last night. Now that we have a nice sunny afternoon this is the perfect drink to sip for happy hour. I was inspired by the Archipelago Candle that we stock called Lanai. Its a combination of pineapple and ginger and basically smells like summer in a tin, so we chose a simple mixture of pineapple vodka and ginger beer. We started with Delaware Distilling Company's vodka which is smooth and works great for infusing with any number of flavors. Then you'll need to cut up one whole pineapple into one inch cubes. The infusion process for pineapple is actually really quick so you only need about half and hour before you can start sipping. Of course the longer you give it the stronger the pineapple flavor. Feel free to taste test along the way! When you are ready to make the cocktail fill a tumbler with ice and add the vodka to about halfway. Top off the drink with the ginger beer of your choice, your local grocery store should have a few choices. If you really want to take it up a notch you could pick up some Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer. Garnish by spearing some of that boozy pineapple onto a stick with some crystalized ginger. All thats left is to sit back in the sun and enjoy! Keep an eye on the tags "taste of summer" and "happy hour" for more recipes throughout the season.

The Story of beau monde and S.A.L.T. Blog

I've lived on the coast my whole life, mostly the Atlantic, just a little time by the Pacific, even a few seasons alongside Lake Michigan. The only other constant in my life has been my love of fashion. I even wrote my senior thesis in college on how people communicate through their style. Professionally speaking I spent nine amazing years working at Bethany Surf Shop. While I was there I learned buying and merchandising, and also what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. The rest of the world wasn't so inviting. I set out from the shop a couple years ago to try and land just such a gig at a larger company. I went coast to coast and I still don't know if it was the economy, my lack of contacts or my Times New Roman one page resume but the offers weren't rolling in. Really, they weren't even trickling in. So, I figured if I can't work for them I'd work with them. When I found a little shop space in the Village of Fenwick I decided to jump in with both feet. Barely a month later I opened with a nice selection of men's and women's vintage pieces and vinyl records. Now that the summer is just around the corner we have great new merchandise coming in everyday from companies you know like Catch Surf, Rhythm, Wildfox, and MinkPink and smaller ones that might be new to you like Duvin Design Co., Boemo, KAII, and Raga. S.A.L.T. is a blog all about life at and love for the beach. My staff and I will be posting all about the lifestyle, new music we love, style layouts and ideas, food and drink recipes, and anything else that fits the beau monde style. Read all about it or come in to the shop and check it out. I'll see you in the Village.
