With the Fourth of July behind us and the summer season in full swing we've hit that time of they year where temperatures soar. Long days are spent trying to cool off and long nights heat up. We're celebrating this time of year by running a special sale on women's swimwear and select dress styles as well as select mens buttondown styles. Fall will come barging in all too quickly so get out there and enjoy the summer season while it lasts in some cool new styles. Happy hour is another great way to cool off on a scorcher of a day so I'm going to feature my favorite summertime cocktail, Sparkling Blueberry Lemonade. This cocktail uses muddled blueberries to really capture the best part of the season, the fresh produce! Start with a handful of blueberries in a shaker and muddle until they are all burst. Then fill the shaker with ice and add 3 ounces of blueberry vodka. I use Cold River Organic Blueberry Infused Potato Vodka, which does not use any artificial flavorings. Shake well to mix the blueberries with the vodka and pour into a Collins or other tall cocktail glass. Fill the drink to the top with Boylan's Sparkling Lemonade and garnish with a wheel of lemon and a few fresh blueberries. Then pull a chair into the shade and watch the summer world go by as you sip on this refreshing, effervescent libation.
Thank you so much to everyone who came out last night in that crummy weather to celebrate beau monde's first summer kickoff party! For everyone who couldn't make it I still want to share the super tasty cocktail that we featured last night. Now that we have a nice sunny afternoon this is the perfect drink to sip for happy hour. I was inspired by the Archipelago Candle that we stock called Lanai. Its a combination of pineapple and ginger and basically smells like summer in a tin, so we chose a simple mixture of pineapple vodka and ginger beer. We started with Delaware Distilling Company's vodka which is smooth and works great for infusing with any number of flavors. Then you'll need to cut up one whole pineapple into one inch cubes. The infusion process for pineapple is actually really quick so you only need about half and hour before you can start sipping. Of course the longer you give it the stronger the pineapple flavor. Feel free to taste test along the way! When you are ready to make the cocktail fill a tumbler with ice and add the vodka to about halfway. Top off the drink with the ginger beer of your choice, your local grocery store should have a few choices. If you really want to take it up a notch you could pick up some Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer. Garnish by spearing some of that boozy pineapple onto a stick with some crystalized ginger. All thats left is to sit back in the sun and enjoy! Keep an eye on the tags "taste of summer" and "happy hour" for more recipes throughout the season.
